The countdown has begun!

I keep looking at the calendar today and I still can't believe it. In one week, I will be in Israel.

And boy, have I been preparing for the trip!  For the past several weeks, my kitchen table has served as ground zero for the ultimate suitcase packing challenge. Power adapters, memory cards, notebooks, recording gear, travel-sized everything from contact lens solution to sunscreen to my pocket sized Bible - it's all piled up on my table, waiting for the day when it finally goes into the suitcase and I fall to my knees praying it all weighs less than 50 pounds. (What was that rule again? Put it all in your suitcase and then take half of the stuff out?)

Besides the packing, there has been a lot of other prep working taking place for my trip. I've been doing a lot of reading about Israel's history as of late, only to discover that I have a whole lot more to learn. The fact that I will be in Israel during the 50th anniversary of the Six Day War has not eluded me, either – seeing a recommended documentary film is on my to-do list this week to learn more about it. But ultimately, the greatest prep work I have been undertaking has been in my Bible study time. What does God have to say about Israel?

It turns out God has much to say about it, and I am looking forward to spending the next few weeks sharing with you what He shows me in the scriptures, in the words of the teachers I will be learning from during my journey, and from what He himself reveals to me in the images and experiences I will enjoy while I’m there.

Thank you for your prayers for the trip. And thank you for taking on the call we have been given from God in Psalm 122, to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem."

P.S.  I will be blogging about my trip as often as I can while I'm overseas, and will post journal entries, pictures and a podcast or two on this page during my trip. Feel free to add this page to your bookmarks as this will serve as my primary source of communication. Also, be sure to listen to Kinship Christian Radio starting Tuesday, May 30th, as I share live reports from Israel on the air as well. Visit www.KinshipRadio.org to listen to a live stream of the radio ministry, or download the free Kinship Radio app for your smartphone.  Gotta love technology!
